Environmental & Permit Assurance Manager

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Environmental & Permit Assurance Manager in Exeter to lead a new team tasked with responsibility for assuring Environmental Permitting Compliance regime. Joining us on a full-time basis, you will receive a competitive salary of £46,000 - £56,000 per annum plus excellent benefits.
 
The role
 
South West Water have over 650 permitted wastewater treatment sites and 1,223 sewage pumping stations throughout Devon and Cornwall.

There are a number of factors which may impact on our ability to maintain permit compliance and we are looking for somebody with an excellent understanding of permit compliance and wastewater operations to lead our Environmental Assurance Compliance Team.

You will consider all factors which may pose a risk to the performance of South West Water’s operational sites; from traders, third party sewer misuse and developments within the catchment to future permit changes and tightening of parameters to ensure continuing compliance.  

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead, develop and support the Environmental Permit Assurance team
  • Devise the inspection global plan to be executed by the team
  • Review completed reports and be responsible for creating prioritised corrective action plans for use by the Operational Compliance Leads.
  • Build a relationship with the EA to share how we have executed against the corrective action plans.
  • Work with internal stakeholders throughout the Pennon Group to enhance understanding of environmental permitting compliance and the external factors which may impact upon the performance of operational sites.
  • Provide training to other departments to enhance those practices impacting on permit compliance.
  • Track progress and provide support for Internal Site Audits reports. 
  • Develop and maintain an EAM Innovation Log and maintain communication with internal partners and relevant project teams.
  • Continuously evaluate the Internal Site Audits programme and consider lessons learned to improve future performance and site wastewater work culture.
  • Supporting the Group General Counsel and Group Head of Legal with any Wastewater compliance matters.
  • Help develop and establish an enhanced environmental awareness within SWW wastewater staff and management teams and track and consider impact of future changes to environmental permits.
  • What we are looking for:

  • Experience of leading a team to deliver environmental permit compliance.
  • Excellent understanding and experience of Environmental permitting compliance, enforcement, variation and consolidation. (EPR 2010 & 2016)
  • Knowledge of the Water Resources Act 1991 and the Water Act 1989 (Consent to Discharge).
  • Excellent organisational and analytical skills, with the ability to consider data and evidence, the ability to draw out implications of different options and make recommendations.
  • Have a good understanding of Regulatory monitoring sampling and Wastewater sampling.
  • Able to work accurately, prioritise work and manage time effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing to colleagues at all levels.
  • Experience in Environmental auditing and EMS
  • A desire to enhance the local and natural environment.
