Alternative Water Supply Technician – South West Water
When water supply is disrupted, you’re the team that steps in.
As an Alternative Water Supply (AWS) Technician, you’ll play a critical role in keeping communities supplied when it matters most — responding to incidents, deploying emergency water solutions and ensuring everything is ready to go at a moment’s notice.
This is the team customers depend on when supply is interrupted — and expectations are high.
What you’ll be doing
Maintaining, inspecting and testing AWS equipment to ensure constant operational readiness
Carrying out first-line maintenance on pumps, valves and associated equipment
Deploying emergency water supply solutions during planned and reactive incidents
Ensuring all equipment is hygienic, compliant and ready for immediate use
Supporting supply interruption events and working to minimise customer impact
Completing deployment, maintenance and compliance reports accurately
Working closely with operational, network and incident teams across the region
Travelling across Devon, Cornwall and Bournemouth as required to support operations
What we’re looking for
Experience in a water, utilities or similar operational environment
Strong mechanical aptitude (pumps, valves, equipment maintenance)
Someone reliable and ready to respond — this role matters when things go wrong
Ability to work independently and as part of a wider operational team
Good IT skills and attention to detail for reporting
A strong customer focus and commitment to high service standards
Full UK driving licence
Flexibility to work a 7-day shift pattern and travel across the region
Desirable:
Driver CPC, LGV or HIAB licences
