Equality, diversity and inclusion

We know that building a diverse, progressive workforce is key to our future success. So we’re constantly looking at new ways to integrate ED&I into everything we do. Our employee networks help influence the direction of our business – and they’ve got big ambitions. Becoming more open, inclusive and diverse is critical to our growth. After all, bringing out the best in each other means we can make a bigger, more sustainable impact on the South West.

We’re proud to be a Disability Confident employer and are taking action to improve how we recruit, retain and develop disabled people. As a member of the 30% Club, we’re committed to increasing gender diversity in our boardrooms and across our business. We’re also helping transform the horizons and prospects of young black people by supporting the 10,000 Black Interns initiative.

  • From our Women’s Network to our LGBTQ+ Network, our employee networks help influence the direction of our business.
  • From Mental Health Awareness Month to Black History Month, we host awareness months throughout the year.
  • We’ve welcomed incredible guest speakers, like Rob Stephenson, Founder of the InsideOut LeaderBoard and TEDx speaker and Margaret Ochieng, Founder & Director of the Inclusive Village, to share their stories with our people.

Our mission, purpose and values

Our mission is to support the lives of people and the places they love for generations to come by bringing water to life. And our purpose isn’t just what we believe in, it’s what we do every day. Continuing to ensure we’re doing the right thing for our customers and stakeholders, delivering fresh clean drinking water, protecting the environment and continuing to innovate will help us look after the South West now and into the future.

We know that it’s not only what we do, but how we do it that’s really important for our customers, colleagues, communities and the environment. That’s why we’re focused on living our values, every day.

The environment

Our commitment to Net Zero

We have ambitious plans to transform how we produce and use energy. Our mission? To bust our operational carbon emissions and hit Net Zero by 2030. For us, that means cutting up to 100,000 tonnes in carbon emissions.

From increasing our energy efficiency programme to decarbonising our fleet, purchasing 100% renewable electricity to planting 250,000 trees by 2025, we’re focused on how we create and use energy in the most efficient way – and how we can innovatively use our local environment to reverse carbon emissions for decades to come.

Social responsibility

Supporting our community

Amazing things happen when you #JustAddWater. As well as providing safe and clean water to 1.7 million customers, we’ve made it our mission to support the lives of people and the places they love for future generations. From championing innovative partnerships with wildlife charities to reducing pollution, we take our guardianship of the natural world very seriously.

Through our community initiatives we support local projects that matter most to our customers. Our community funds support the wellbeing of people, improve and protect our local environment, and champion new and innovative water-saving projects across the South West. We also support the communities we serve with our Give an Hour employee volunteering scheme.
